NASA: Satellites rate descent is slowed.

We reported when and where a dead 6-tons NASA satellite to the Earth will fall on the variables that make it difficult to predict, at this late date. The upper atmosphere research satellite or UARS, are the largest NASA spacecraft crashed to Earth, but it is now confusing scientists slowed to delay its descent towards the Earth - his ultimate crash, until the beginning of the weekend. Now, the space agency is a prediction of the satellite to the Earth will crash late Friday or early Saturday morning, Eastern time.

MICHELE NORRIS, host: NPR news, this is all viewed. I'm Michele Norris.

MELISSA BLOCK, host:, and I'm Melissa block.

Now you have probably the size of a school bus, which about 13,000-pound satellite belongs to fall plunge from its orbit and the Earth. NASA had expected that this will happen at some point today. Now, the latest is here.

BETH DICKEY: The satellite rate descent has slowed.

BLOCK: NASA spokeswoman, Beth Dickey.

DICKEY: And that is, why the estimated reentrancy time comes a bit later than was originally expected.

BLOCK: It could happen as late as tomorrow or tonight. Scientists had thought that it would splash in the South Pacific, but with the changing schedule the opportunity comes, the pieces of the satellite to the United States will fall. I'm sorry that Beth Dickey was no more specific than that.

NORRIS: But don't worry. All but 10 percent of the satellite should burn, as it falls. The largest surviving piece are a mere 300 pounds. There is no reason to panic.

BLOCK: The satellite goes by the acronym UARS-, the U-A-R-S. It stands for upper atmosphere research satellite.

NORRIS: UARS has been in space to measure the ozone layer, but now scientists measure it and all many factors that influence how and when and where it falls, including done on the Sun, they see.

DICKEY: In the past few weeks solar activity had caused the satellite rate of descent to speed up and our satellite Tracker now find that solar activity is not the most important factor. In fact, it seems something happens the satellite is to reduce the drag on them and their descent from orbit so extend.

NORRIS: Makes all this uncertainty, that fall, the satellite-a perfect opportunity for the players. For example, betting offers the Irish website, PaddyPower.com, bets on where the satellite pieces are taken first.

KILLIAN CONVOY: Africa, nine to four. South America, 11 to four. Asia, three to one. North America, three to one. Australia, 6 to 1. Europe, eight to one. Antarctica, 16-1.

BLOCK: This is Cillian Convoy(ph). He is a representative for these bets website, and he offers this calculation of a safe place. Quotas, a piece of 66 to one UARS on Ireland, is covered.
